Tribune Star Christmas Basket Drive

The Tribune-Star Christmas Basket drive may be among the oldest and longest-running fundraising drives in Terre Haute.

The Tribune-Star Christmas Basket drive may be among the oldest and longest-running fundraising drives in Terre Haute. The newspaper’s employees banded together more than 80 years ago to raise money and stock food baskets for individuals and families in the Wabash Valley who have been recommended to us by the Salvation Army.

This year’s goal is to provide baskets to 500 families. To do this, we must raise $17,000, of which $6,000 is our online goal!

Making the Basket Fund successful each year requires teamwork from our employees, managers and partners.

In addition to the Tribunes-Star and its employees, the other partners are Baesler’s Market, B&B Foods, the Salvation Army and the Wabash Valley Community Foundation.

Baesler’s is providing food for baskets at cost, a very generous contribution. B&B Foods provides a box truck to store food. The Salvation Army does the difficult work of creating a list of needy recipients. And the Community Foundation’s involvement allows for donations to be tax deductible.
